ALBANY — The Albany branch of the NAACP arranged a wellness expo at the Empire Condition Plaza Concourse on Saturday to share information and put a spotlight on the value of wellbeing and wellness for Black and brown communities.

“Having this good is an opportunity for us to have various courses and groups that are in the community, readily available to the local community to be below and share details on how to take treatment of ourselves … and stay a extended, more healthy daily life,” claimed Debora Brown-Johnson, president of the Albany NAACP.

The Albany NAACP partnered with around 20 businesses and sellers to choose element in the event from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. When Saturday’s forecast was for temperatures in the small 90s, the occasion, initially scheduled to just take put outside on the plaza, was moved indoors. 

Gwen Pope, initial vice president of the Albany NAACP, expressed the importance of connecting with the Black and brown communities about health and wellness, primarily since of disparities in obtain to treatment, which have been highlighted through the pandemic.

“People of colour have experienced decades of well being disparities,” Pope said. “We resolved that for the reason that so several wellness difficulties had been discovered as a final result of men and women getting identified with coronavirus, we needed to do something to make the group far more mindful of people disparities and how their wellbeing can be managed.”

The expo also had a lineup of speakers from every group to share details about their function and how group users and fellow corporations can be associated.
